Where to Find Vintage Clothing? Part 2

Vintage is Truly Everywhere!
I should know, I buy vintage everyday for my online store

You may have to get a little dirty in the hunt
But when you find something unique its well worth it!
#1
My favorite places to hunt for vintage clothing are the local flea markets
I go from town to town attending weekend flea markets in the South-East
I like looking for vintage at flea markets mostly because of the people
You will meet the most off the wall characters at a flea market
Most of the items sold at a market are sold by the owner
So sometimes you can get a good story behind the items
Also I have been going to flea markets since I was a child
#2
Another great spot to shop for vintage clothing are church stores or thrift stores
This is the most obvious place
We all go to them around Halloween and find crazy crap from our parents hay day
But there can sometimes be some valuable items in these stores
I don't have as much luck with the clothes in these stores since most items are donation
People tend to keep rare clothes from the 20's 30's 40' and 50's
But I find great handbags, jewelry, and home goods in these places
#3
Finally, Estate Sales
These sales are conducted by a company hired by the families and loved ones
These sales are listed in the local papers
They are usually on the weekends and start super early so get there first as I always say
This estate sales are a great place to find vintage clothing due to the nature of the sale
They are more private and less picked through
Also these items are what don't make it to the thrift stores
So you can really find very early ears and special events garments
Such as wedding dresses, communion dresses and things pass down from generation to generation

Hope This Helps, Happy Hunting!

Where to Find Vintage Clothing

 Where to Find Vintage Clothing?

I get asked this question all the time due to my occupation of owning a vintage clothing store
In this day and age replicas or "vintage style" have taken over the true vintage world
I can not tell you how many times I am hunting for vintage clothing and find a Forever 21 tag on something that looks vintage.
It can be tricky to identify and age a true vintage garment.
My first piece of advice is to look for a Union Made tag
Most garments made from the 1960's and earlier had a Union Made tag.
Also fiber content can be a dead give away
Polyester, Cotton and Silk are most common for vintage clothing
Blends of these fibers together may mean it is a newer garment
But my favorite way to identify true vintage garments is by looking at the designer tag
Fonts used on the tags can tell you more than you may think
The style of writing used on clothing tags can help you identify the ear of the garment
Here are some great examples of eras with distinct front styles

The 1920's and 1930's
Art Deco Era

The 1950's, and The Early 1960's

The 1970's

The 1980's

I hope that these tips help you on your quest on where to find vintage clothing!

About The Owner

My photo
I graduated from FSU with a degree in Apparel Design and combined my love for vintage with my love for dress making in youthanizeing vintage garbs. I have always had a passion for the eras before me since I can remember. The daughter of my father who collects and restores old classic cars and my mother who filled her home with the most fascinating antiques, I guess it just seemed natural.
